Latin Women Streoytypes

A quick google search of “latin ladies streoytypes” brings up images of thinly- clad olive skinned, crow haired, red- lipped, curvy women. This fetishization of Latinas in the internet is n’t only embarrassing, but it also has serious implications. It exacerbates belittling and can lead to prejudice. It can even advertise dating violence and enhance physical abuse of adolescent women.

The strangeness and fetishizing of mexican bodies turns them into sheer items to become won and showcased. This is not to say that there are n’t some positive stereotypes of latina women, but the majority of portrayals in our mediascape leave out a whole community. This typecasting of latinas does limits their ability by internalizing the image that community puts back of them.

Also, these stereotypes can be damaging to immigrant communities because they can power pro- immigrant attitudes and reinforce the idea that Latinas do n’t belong in the workplace or contribute to the economy.
